EMADDC is by nature a programme of collaboration within the aeronautical domain. Aircraft surveillance data is used by the meteorological community to derive quality controlled upper air observations for wind and temperature. These observations are in turn used to improve the quality of the meteorological service provision to aviation.
EMADDC uses aircraft surveillance data (Mode-S EHS, MRAR) from various sources such as Air Traffic Control, Air Support and local Mode-S/ADS-B receivers and these are defined as 'input data'.
Participation in the EMADDC program to provide input data is strongly supported and details to connect are included in the Suppliers of Data to EMADDC section. Delivery of the data to EMADDC is in principal free of charge and the EMADDC output is in return made available and free of charge.
The quality controlled derived upper air observations are defined as 'output data' or 'products' of EMADDC. The output data will be made available as Open Data via the KNMI Data Portal in a SWIM compliant format in the middle of 2022 and is under development.
As an intermediate solution the output data is provided to EUMETNET Members and ECMWF via KNMI SFTP. Details to connect are included in the Users of EMADDC Data section.
